- Writing Obituaries for Our Recently Deceased Classmates
Here is a list of our classmates who have passed since our last reunion.
In years gone by, designated HAA staff wrote the obituaries included in reunion classes’ Class Reports. Recently, HAA turned this task over to the reunion classes themselves. We think this is a good opportunity for a more personal approach. So please let us know if you would be willing to write or cowrite
- the obituary of a recently deceased classmate known personally to you, and/or
- the obituaries of one or more other classmates, known to you or not, who need to be remembered in our Class Report.
Please email Peter at lerangis@gmail.com if you would be willing to perform one or both of these important tasks.
HAA will conduct an obituary-writing workshop over Zoom in early October. We hope to be able to provide a link to the video of this event, along with written guidelines for obituaries.
Obituaries will need to be submitted to Peter by December 1, 2026 for light editing that ensures some level of standardized length and tone.
Many thanks to all of you who volunteer to step up in this important way.
- Your HR77 Photos and Videos Needed!
For almost 54 years, we’ve been the class of HR77 — and YOU have the photos and videos to prove it! Please submit your photos and videos of classmates and events — from our previous reunions as well as from our undergraduate days — by uploading them here: https://hr77class.com/uploads/
Any photos and videos you submit will be visible only to those who log in using their Harvard Keys. The wishes of classmates who prefer not to have their images published will be respected.
Please submit your photos and videos by January 15, 2027, so that they will be available to the committee of classmates who will determine which of them will be displayed during our 50th reunion next June.
- Please consider booking a hotel NOW
At the moment, Cambridge-area hotels have rooms available — but Reunion week fills up super-fast, and other local events will put a strain on vacancies. We suggest that you book even if you are on the fence. You can always cancel the reservation.
● Reserved blocks of rooms can be found at this link. You may, of course, reserve at other hotels, but the ones closest to campus fill first. A number of dorm rooms will be available but cannot be or reserved yet. (Tip: book your hotel now, and cancel it if you like the dorm option.)
● For classmates who want to stay overnight at the Boston Marriott Copley Place after our big June 3 dinner event there, the hotel has reserved discounted rooms you can access at this link, or by calling 877-901-2079.
- Performers Sought for the Class of 1977 Evening of Performing Arts
Singers, dancers, actors, musicians, orators, comics, jugglers, magicians, puppeteers, and performers of all shapes and sizes! If you have a talent you would care to share at our 50th Reunion Evening of Performing Arts, which will take place on Wednesday, June 2, from 8:00 to 10:00 in Sanders Theatre, we would love to know about it! Please email Greg Gorden, the evening’s producer, at gwtpg@aol.com the following information:
- a brief description of your talent
- what you would like to do
- the approximate duration of your performance (please note that there will be time requirements depending on the number of acts we accept)
You should expect to be available to rehearse and to participate in sound checks and other technical aspects of production sometime between 3:00 and 5:00 on Tuesday, June 1, and sometime late in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 2. Those times could shift slightly.
- Singers Sought for the HR77 Memorial Service Choir
Would you like to sing in the HR77 Memorial Service Choir?
Even if you haven’t sung for a while, you’re worried that your voice isn’t what it once was, or you started singing only recently, you are most welcome to sing with us! Andrew Clarkson, Artistic Director of The Copley Singers and Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brookline — and also Alison’s brother — will again be leading us. He understands that Memorial Service singers serve both as musical contributors and classmates who are honoring classmates.
The Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, June 2 from 2:00 to 3:30. The group will rehearse sometime between 3:00 and 5:00 on Tuesday, June 1, and before the service from 12:30 to 1:30 on Wednesday, June 2. Those times could shift slightly.
Efforts will be made to permit choir members participating in the Evening of Performing Arts to do so with minimal sacrifice of rehearsal time for either event.
If you’re interested in singing, please email Joan (joanssoble.ed@gmail.com) with your name and the part(s) you sing (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) by April 20, 2027 to ensure that there will sufficient music for all singers by the first rehearsal.
- Funds Available for Getting Back to GetBack 5.0
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of several of our classmates, the cost of attending our 50th Reunion will be substantially underwritten for all attendees. Their donations not only will cover all or part of HAA’s reunion program fees, but will significantly defray our travel and lodging costs — simply because we’re classmates!
- HAA Reunion Program Fee Waiver — In Spring 2027, HAA will open Reunion Early-Bird Registration. You will have the choice of applying one of three HAA-provided promo codes that will reduce the charged registration fee by either 100%, 50%, or 0%. (Note: the HAA Program fee promo options are based on early-bird reunion pricing. If you sign up after the early-bird deadline, the promo code percentage will be applied only to the early-bird registration cost.)
- Participation Stipend — Getting back to Cambridge and staying there isn’t cheap. An additional subsidy to defray out-of-pocket costs will be available to each classmate and a guest. The amount of the subsidy will be based on how far you have traveled to Cambridge from home and how much of the reunion you attended. No receipts will need to be submitted, and the funds will be disbursed shortly after the reunion.
Closer to registration time, more specific information will be provided, including instructions for accepting and receiving the waiver and stipend.
- HR77 Photograph and Video Curators Needed
At our milestone 50th Reunion, all of us deserve to see and be seen! At this link, we have asked classmates for submissions of photographs and videos, from our undergraduate days till now. We plan to display at various events. We also plan to respect the wishes of classmates who would not like their images displayed.
In mid-January 2027, a committee of volunteer curators will begin reviewing the photos and videos submitted that classmates have been uploading to our class’s “for HR77’s eyes only” site since October. Ultimately, they will determine which photos and videos will be
- Projected on the large LCD wall at Sensation ’77 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place
- Projected or otherwise displayed in the HR77 on-campus hospitality space and at other class events
- Included in pre-reunion emails or on the class website in various contexts
This curating group will conclude their work by mid-March 2027. If you’re interested in being part of this group, please email Joan (joanssoble.ed@gmail.com).
